JILLIAN VO Brought To You By One Of Ebay’s Founding Members This amazing antique area rug dates to the 1920s – 1930s, and measures approximately 7’ long by 4’8” wide. It is most likely all wool made by Bigelow, although not marked as it has been cut down from a larger rug many years ago, so the original bound edge where the Bigelow name would be stamped is gone. The ground color is really hard to explain as it changes depending on the light. I always considered it to be steel blue when I had it on display, and then I started taking pics for this listing…. I think it’s more dark and lighter gray, which actually works perfectly with today’s contemporary gray color trend. Typical to the era, each of the beautiful bouquets display roses in pinks and yellows, surrounded with elegant acanthus leaves. The condition is great for the age with no visible marks or stains, and no worn areas. There are about 7 little threads missing on one side where our rescue bunny decided to take a sample when I used it for about a year. The other edge has some crumpling only because this was stored in a closet rolled, and standing on that edge. I’m sure it will flatten out fairly quickly when this is in use again. The binding could do with replacing as its very worn in some areas. I’ve had many of these rugs over the years, and again, although it is unmarked, I am 99% positive this is a Bigelow. These stunning antique rugs are almost impossible to find in good condition these days as sadly they were often overused and stored in dirty attics and basements. I never intended to part with this beautiful rug, however I’m downsizing some of my collections in order to fund my kitty cat sanctuary, so check back often for lots of awesome antique and vintage surprises.
