5'8" x 9'6" ft clean hand knotted antique authentic Heriz rug (late 1800s to early 1900s estimate south caucas / caucasian regions base of Mt. Sabalan ). The rug has been professionally cleaned. Even original pile. No stains, tears, holes, animal or smoke. Only most modest antique wear over the century, amazing for the age and of great value. This special carpet is made of the finest lamb kurk wool and natural vegetable dyes by skilled crafts people from villages and hamlets at the base of Mt. Sabalan. Its mineral rich waters when used to wash the rug during the finishing process lends unusually rich tones famous for the region. Double tied knots upon two foundation layers for another century of durability. Red from pomegranate madder root and vermilion, dark to light blue from indigo grape lilac hyacinth and centaurea cyanus, brown earths, wheats and tans from larkspur and weld. Natural dyes oxidize over the century giving light and dark shades of each color called 'abrash' by curators, giving lots of tone nuance.
